Growing your own is fun and inspiring, but it’s more than just a project. We need to radically re-think how we eat, and this starts with giving food the love and appreciation it deserves.
As humanity has modernised and farming has commercialised, we've become distanced from our food. Think about what it takes to feed a city - millions of us eating 3 times a day. Food is imported from all around the world, circulated, processed, eaten, disposed off (40% wasted) - yet we take it for granted.
It's an unsustainable system, responsible for 24% of global Global Greenhouse Gases, and many other bad things; from polluting water and displacing nature to plastic pollution and deforestation. Not cool.
We believe growing food at home helps. Realistically, it would be nigh on impossible for city folk to be totally self sufficient. We have jobs, we need to socialise, we need to get away - but a little effort can go a long way. builds new appreciation of what it takes to feed the world, and every harvest is a mini win that contributes to something bigger. It gives us reason to make better food choices; to eating seasonally, cooking the right amounts and not wasting.
